for performers of all skill levels.

The Yard Repertory acting course is taught by John Ennis, the founder of the Yard Theater and a veteran actor with more than 200 film and television appearances, including ZODIAC, Dead to Me, Mr. Show, and more. After more than ten years teaching at the Lee Strasberg Theater Institute, John began offering private courses at the Yard, where he coaches more than seventy actors working in TV and film.

Each course focuses on multiple plays, with students rotating through the roles of each play so everyone learns and performs each part. This quickly immerses beginner students in key roles, while encouraging experienced students to stretch beyond their comfort zones. John’s process, honed over twenty years of teaching, challenges and inspires students at every level, while developing their skills in character analysis, memorization, articulation, playing to the audience and more. At regular intervals, students perform the play in front of a live audience at the Yard Theater.

Courses are offered on a “rolling” basis, so attendance is flexible: anyone can skip a session if needed and make up the class after their official term has ended, making it easy for busy students and working actors to adjust the course to their schedule.
